  • Lake Bled Island has has several buildings, the main one being the pilgrimage church dedicated to the Assumption of Mary (Cerkev Marijinega vnebovzetja), built in its current form near the end of the 17th century. It is decorated with remains of Gothic frescos from around 1470 in the chancel, and with rich Baroque furnishing.

It is a place my wife's aunt, Pauline Puhich (1905-1983 born Pauline Bruketta, Croatia) made Judy promise at our wedding in 1975, "take your new artist husband there to paint - it is the most beautiful lake in the world!" Forty nine years later, we made good on the promise and found that Pauline was spot-on with her assessment of the beauty here. This painting is lovingly dedicated to Aunt Pauline and was painted en plein air September 2024.
