Elo Wobig
Like many artists, Elo Wobig has been passionate about drawing and mark making since childhood. While she enjoyed a first career practicing emergency medicine, she continued sketching, painting murals and other creative projects for her community. Those projects gave rise to commissioned artwork, reigniting her ambition to become a full-time painter. Since 2017, she has won numerous local competitions. Most recently, her award winning work has garnered national recognition, at the American Impressionist Society Annual Juried Show 2019 held at the prestigious Salmagundi Club, where she was awarded Honorable Mention. She is honored to have her painting displayed in the permanent collection at the Museum of the Oregon Territory. Artist Statement Elo Wobig is landscape painter whose work is characterized by vivid color and calligraphic brush strokes of complex scenes. Most of her paintings originate en plein air from locations across the Pacific NW. Her primary goal is to capture distinct features so that the audience might recognize the time and place. In doing so, she invites the viewer to envision the beauty she finds in ordinary places. She employs a full palette of color and textures in her oil paintings. In addition, she maintains a practice of recording her travels in sketches and water media.
